Kona Earns First 3 Point Major!

This past Sunday was a thrilling day for Kona, Lori and Mike. Kona won his first 3 point major win in Shakopee, MN at the Minneapolis Kennel Club Dog Show. He worked really well in the ring both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Kona performed well, but did not get out of Open Class. On Sunday, Kona won the Open Class over two other dogs, and then won Winner's Dog, while competing with dogs from two other classes. It's like they say, "you never know." It was a joyous day. Kona went on and participated in the Best of Breed competition, and took Best of Opposite. It was a really fun day!

Kona takes Reserve in Albert Lea, MN Aug. 12, 2007

Kona had a great day today, by winning Open Class for Dogs, and then taking Reserve at the Kennel Club of Freeborn County Dog Show in Albert Lea, MN. Kona got off to a little shaky start, as he put a skip or two into his gate. The judge asked if he was lame and to see him again. After a quick review, she said she could tell he wasn't lame and he got to compete. Happily, Kona then won Open Class.

In the Winner's Dog competition (see video below), Kona took Reserve (out of 8 dogs). A thrilling moment for Kona, as the judge took Kona out with the winner, for one last look. So very close. We think Kona's gate could have been better, but overall, a very good performance.

Kona @ Bismarck Kennel Club, Aug. 4, 2007 Bismarck, ND (parts 1 & 2)

Kona participated in the second day of the Bismarck Kennel Club Dog Show on August 4th, 2007. The judge, Mr. Malcolm C. Fellows, really enjoyed Kona and expressed strong enthusiasm for him. He said he could tell Kona loved the ring, and with a little more filling out, he is going to do very well. That was so nice to hear. Kona didn't stack as well as Friday (see video below) and was a handful, but even with all of the movement, I felt more comfortable dealing with it. He was just too darn excited.

Kona strutted pretty well today, although he did sit on his free stand. Need to work on that. He really had fun and got to make a couple of laps around the ring.

Kona in Bismarck, N.D., Friday, August 3rd

Kona participated in the Bismarck Kennel Clubs Inaugural Dog Show. He was the only Basset Hound entered, but it was good practice and fun! Kona moved and stacked pretty well today. The handler could have been better, but has learned to go with what you got. Kona also participated in the Hound group competition later in the afternoon. We've got to stick our stacks and free stands a little better, but we didn't embarass ourselves.

Kona at the Greater Minneapolis St. Paul Basset Hound Club Specialty Show, which was part of the Lake Minnetonka Kennel Club Dog Show, in Jordan Mn, on 6/9/07.

Kona took third in the open class for dogs. Kona did quite well, stacked well and trotted nicely. The judge was very supportive, and said Kona just needs to fill out more in his front side. We were very pleased today.

Kona Slays Competition in Basset Olympics

Kona The Barbarian, from Venezuela by way of Winnipeg, Manitoba, attempts a new world record in the Pillow Jump. Vertical is critical in this Olympic event, sanctioned by the I4LOC (International Four Legged Olympic Committee). Kona doesn't dissapoint in attempting this high difficulty, dangerous, Fosbury flop. The camera doesn't lie.

Kona in Eagan, MN, May 13th, 2007

Kona in the Dog competition for Basset Hounds at the Minnesota River Valley Kennel Club Dog Show, in Eagan, MN. Kona was the only male entered for his breed. Hop, skip, diggy diggy do. We tried going a little slower and are working on Kona's gate.

Kona Photo Shoot!

This is my favorite spot of the couch. I even look good while I'm sleeping.

Such is the life of a Basset Hound. Excuse me while I kiss the sky!

Let it all hang out, baby!
