Kona takes Reserve in Albert Lea, MN Aug. 12, 2007

Kona had a great day today, by winning Open Class for Dogs, and then taking Reserve at the Kennel Club of Freeborn County Dog Show in Albert Lea, MN. Kona got off to a little shaky start, as he put a skip or two into his gate. The judge asked if he was lame and to see him again. After a quick review, she said she could tell he wasn't lame and he got to compete. Happily, Kona then won Open Class.

In the Winner's Dog competition (see video below), Kona took Reserve (out of 8 dogs). A thrilling moment for Kona, as the judge took Kona out with the winner, for one last look. So very close. We think Kona's gate could have been better, but overall, a very good performance.

Kona @ Bismarck Kennel Club, Aug. 4, 2007 Bismarck, ND (parts 1 & 2)

Kona participated in the second day of the Bismarck Kennel Club Dog Show on August 4th, 2007. The judge, Mr. Malcolm C. Fellows, really enjoyed Kona and expressed strong enthusiasm for him. He said he could tell Kona loved the ring, and with a little more filling out, he is going to do very well. That was so nice to hear. Kona didn't stack as well as Friday (see video below) and was a handful, but even with all of the movement, I felt more comfortable dealing with it. He was just too darn excited.

Kona strutted pretty well today, although he did sit on his free stand. Need to work on that. He really had fun and got to make a couple of laps around the ring.

Kona in Bismarck, N.D., Friday, August 3rd

Kona participated in the Bismarck Kennel Clubs Inaugural Dog Show. He was the only Basset Hound entered, but it was good practice and fun! Kona moved and stacked pretty well today. The handler could have been better, but has learned to go with what you got. Kona also participated in the Hound group competition later in the afternoon. We've got to stick our stacks and free stands a little better, but we didn't embarass ourselves.
